Happiness

Love Yourself First

When was the last time you put yourself before everyone and everything else?  Can't Remember?  Well this may explain why most of us feel dissatisfied and discontented despite having so much in our lives.  While we are constantly told that thinking of yourself is selfish, it is not really so.  Have you ever wondered how can an unhappy and discontented person make anyone else happy?  If you think deeply you will realize that unless you fell happy and fulfilled you cannot contribute anything positive to other's lives.

Imagine - would you like to go to a doctor who is so bogged down by his own problems that he is much too distracted?  Or would you go to a shop where you are greeted by a grumpy faced owner, although he might be trying his best to help you? Or for that matter would you go to a friend who despite his best intentions gives no happy vibes? I am sure most of us would like to go to people who are happy and positive like bright sunshine.

Human beings have a terrific ability to pick up vibes - both positive and negative.  And an unhappy vibe can only pull you down.  So while you might be thinking that you are doing the correct thing by sacrificing your needs and happiness to make others happy it does not work like that.  Your happiness somehow touches them and then you wonder why they are not happy despite your sacrifices.  Yes, sometimes you need to balance your acts so that you don't hurt others but be careful that it is not at the cost of your own happiness!!

Happiness does amazing things to a person.  When you are happy you feel full of energy; you can move mountains and you feel so generous.  Doing things for others seems like a pleasure.  Moreover happiness allows you to forget and forgive people; it allows you to let go off that anger and the feeling of uselessness.  The minute you experience happiness nothing negative really matters.  So why do we always feel so apologetic to strive for personal happiness above anything else.

One reason is that makes us feel guilty is that we have been conditioned to believe that we have no right to be absolutely happy;  and if we are happy, it means we are being selfish.  However the truth is that a happy mother is better than an unhappy one, and so on.

So it is time you insisted on your own happiness.  How do you do that? Well watch out for our next edition.
